American Ivy Society 2017

Dear American Ivy Society Members,
All of us on the Board of the American Ivy Society want to wish you a Happy New Year and thank you for all your years’ dedication to our favorite plant, Hedera. The American Ivy Society was founded in 1973 by Susanne Warner Pierot and has continued on since that time with one goal in mind and that was to study ivy and bring that information to all of you who share our passion for this fascinating plant.

As with all plant societies and like groups, printing costs and mailings have greatly surpassed the income from our dues. We find all of our money and reserves are going into printing and mailing rather than the purpose of the society. We have struggled for some time on how to best serve our membership and looking at what other societies are doing and we feel the best solution for everyone is to move to the digital age.

Although it is always hard to make changes we feel as the Board it is important to look into the future and make sure our decisions are in the best interest of our membership and our mission. We will no longer be producing, printing or mailing any more newsletters or journals. We are also changing the structure of membership.

We do intend to update our website regularly with information as it becomes available. The goal is to make ivy.org and our Facebook page, The American Ivy Society, become the definitive places to visit for ivy news. We are working to add all of our previously printed material to the web-site. We hope to improve our current services by providing direct and individual information. We are exploring other interactive possibilities.

Instead if charging a membership fee we are suggesting an annual donation of $10 (or more) to go towards the study of ivy and keeping the web site updated. Please visit ivy.org and click on the donation button or mail your donation to: The American Ivy Society, 128 Husted Station Rd., Elmer, NJ 08318. We will continue to have a commercial membership and work to increase the nurseries who can supply the ivies we all want to own. We are also looking for other ways to raise money to support the society and serve the membership.

We are grateful to all the current members and want to give them the best service possible but we also want to make sure we are spending your money wisely and on our mission as society.

The American Ivy Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the genus Hedera through education and promotion.
